Rescued dog becomes a victim of politics

Infuriating news out of Florida, as Gawker reported Monday that Florida Governor Rick Scott adopted a dog during the 2010 gubernatorial campaign and, once elected, promptly returned the dog to its previous owners.

When questioned as to why the Scott family returned the dog, spokespeople for the governor claimed that the Labrador, named “Reagan,” was aggressive, barking at staffers and unnerving many.

Rescue dogs can have behavioral problems, but Gawker editor Robert Kessler put it best. “While perhaps Reagan is happy in a new home now, it says a lot about Scott’s character that he’s the kind of person who’s willing to adopt a pet and simply dump it when the dog is no longer politically advantageous.”
